Management of dairy Animals
In our daily life we use sheep, Buffalo, cow, goat etc as a pet animals and we got from them milk, meet and skin, for the better and good quality of milk, meet production we need to better management.
Care and management of new born calf
1) remove mucus from nostril and mouth immediately after birth
2) Allow the mother to lick
3) clean the body coat by gunny bag or cloth to provide warmth to the calf
4) cut the navel cord 3cm away from the body with new blade and apply tincture iodine on the cut portion
5) and most important feed colostrum to calf within two hours after birth at 10%of body weight
Care and management of pregnant cow and Buffalo's.
The proper care and management of cow and Buffalo's during the last 2-3 month of their pregnancy is very important to harvest maximum milk production.
Housing and feeding
1) pregnant animals should be housed separately as they need a special care
2) provide adequate clean and cold water
3) Give injection of city. D3 @10 million I. U intramuraly, a week before parturition to avoid milk fever in subsequent lactation.
4) Never allow the pregnant animals to mix with other animals which have the history of contagious disease like brucellosis.
Care and management of freshly calved cows and Buffalo's
1) immediately after parturition, wash external genitalia, hind legs, flanks and tell with a Luke warm water containing few crystals of neem leaves or potassium permanganate.
2) Dispose off the placenta by deep burial.
3) provide warm water one with January to keep the freshly calved animals warm especially during winter
4) avoid complete milking for first 2 days after parturition for first 2 days after parturition to prevent milk fever.
